Product Brief
  1. A two storey mid terraced, two bed, one bathroom home.
  2. Made from a containerised housing / building system.
  3. The first Code 4 recycled shipping container home.
  4. Use of 4 recycled high strength and corrosion resistant shipping containers.
  5. A volumetric building system - Fully factory fitted-out and delivered to site.
  6. Ready to fix to screw pile foundations and 'plug' into site services.

What can the building system be used for?
  1. Detached, semi-detached and terraced homes.
  2. Affordable housing, student accommodation, including disaster relief, i.e. Haiti disaster, we are currently in discussion with Haiti Officials to provide temporary disaster recovery accommodation.
  3. Hotels and apartments.
  4. Structurally capable of reaching in excess of 16 storeys high.

Can I buy or rent it?
  1. Both.
  2. We offer long, medium and long term hire contracts.
  3. We do not require to own the land.

What does it cost?
  1. £95,000. Homes can be purchased from £60,000.
  2. Homes are available to rent starting from £150 per week

80 square metres.


How long does it take to build?
21 days.


What is the heating cooling system?
  1. Nelan VP18 combined air to air heat pump with combined heating / cooling, air handling and hot water, along with PV Panels.
  2. Under MSC certification ready for publication of government grants in April 2010.
  3. This system is being launched with our home - first time in the UK:
    1. Benefit - Reduced need to for heating as the temperature of the incoming air is higher than room temperature.
    2. Benefit - No drafts as there are no outside openings in the home (balanced ventilation in/out).
    3. Benefit - No problems with moisture or smells.
    4. Benefit - fresh air ventilation and stale air extraction.
    5. Benefit - Relief of allergy problems.
    6. Benefit - High heat recovery rates.
    7. Benefit - Cheap hot water.
    8. Benefit - Usually installed in utility room or similar.
    9. Benefit - Easy access to filters in the front.
    10. Benefit - Possibility of integrating a heat pump for under floor heating.

What warranties /guarantees are there?
  1. 10 year NHBC certification.
  2. 60yrs cover to the metal structure.
  3. 10-15 years to the fit-out, including cladding and windows etc.

What standards does it meet?
  1. Fully compliant with the current British Building Regulations. Certificate supplied by Approved Inspectors Butler & Young.
  2. Code 4 rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes (criteria relating to aspects of sustainable design, from insulation to material resources to water treatment etc. Divided into 7 categories). Note that in terms of energy usage, a Code 4 rating is a 70% improvement on the minimum requirement form the British Building Regulations.
  3. Fully compliant with Life Time Homes (guidance for designing for elderly, total compliance gains points in CFSH evaluation).
  4. Meets most of the requirements of the London Housing Design Guide (document by Mayor of London for proposed building standards in London). In terms of space standards, the Eco Home exceeds the minimum requirements of Nottingham city Council HQI standards, with a good efficiency of habitable room to circulation ratio.
